Downloading Instructions
We are delighted to announce that our customised subscription and publication software is now on-line. The first volume of papers will be published in Electronic Geology shortly, and it is hoped that Electronic Medicinal Chemistry will begin publication in the not too distant future. Additionally, we will shortly begin publishing almost 200 consultancy reports. Anyone visiting our Web pages can or will be able to:
- view all our published document titles and abstracts free of charge.
- List all the titles and abstracts of publications within a particular journal.
- Search for any title or abstract by date, or by any word(s) contained with the title and/or abstract.
- Download free articles using a dummy account (see later).
- Where appropriate, select an article to be downloaded as either a PDF or HTML file.
In order to download chargeable items, a subscription to Electronic Journals Ltd. is required. All chargeable items are individually priced. Subscribers to Electronic Journals Ltd. will be able to download any of our published documents provided their request is covered by sufficient funds in their accounts. Subscribers can also find out the remaining balance in their account at any time.
In order for prospective clients to get used to our service, we have created a dummy account and free test article outputted in Portable Document Format (PDF). The reference name for each of these articles are given below:
Electronic Geology...........................................Testdoc.
Electronic Medicinal Chemistry............................ EMC_0001.
Dummy Account details:
Username: journal
Password: publish
Please note case sensitivity!
In either journal you can download the article using this information and by following the instructions given. Some of our initial articles will also be downloadable at no cost so that prospective clients can see the quality of material without having to first commit funds to a subscription.
To view the article, you must have installed a version of the PDF reader Adobe ACROBAT on your network or PC. If you have not got a copy of this application program, then one can be downloaded FREE from Adobe Corporation. Whether or not you decide to take out a subscription with Electronic Journals Ltd., a PDF reader will prove very useful for reading many other Web documents. Using a PDF reader, you can display a document on screen or alternatively print it out for a hard copy. In most cases if you are using an academic Internet network then a reader will take a few minutes to download. (However, if you are using a modem, then as download rates are usually considerably slower we advise downloading this piece of software outside of peak hours if possible.)
The latest pre-release version of the Adobe's PDF Reader (Adobe Acrobat 3.0 or "Amber") runs as a NETSCAPE plug-in: i.e. - it allows you to view downloaded PDF files within the Netscape browser. Again, this program is provided FREE on a trial-only basis from Adobe Corporation.

We believe that our service offers unparalleled value for money and flexibility. However, as ever we strive to improve. Therefore please contact us with your comments and criticisms of our service so we can tailor it to your needs.

Troubleshooting
- We have noticed that on certain systems when a PDF document is downloaded, Netscape returns a blank screen: do not worry! the document has probably downloaded correctly. To save the document, just go to the FILE menu and then choose the SAVE AS option. Then type in the name you wish to save the document as. The document will be saved on your machine or network and then can be loaded using a PDF reader.
- On some systems it has been reported that when users have selected to download and save the free document, the name readdoc.pl is displayed rather than the report title. At present we are working to fix this bug. Until then, please erase this name and select the name you wish to save the document by.
- If you experience problems in loading PDF documents using the new Netscape plug-in version of Adobe Acrobat (Acrobat 3.0), then please check that Acrobat is properly configured. Go to the Acrobat folder and make a copy of the file entitled PDF Viewer. Please put this file into the Netscape plug-ins folder.
- If you have an older copy of Adobe's Acrobat PDF reader, (eg version 2.1), you can still configure Netscape to open this application when downloading a PDF file. To do this, go to the OPTIONS menu in Netscape and then choose GENERAL PREFERENCES. Then choose HELPERS.
Acrobat should be present in the list of helper applications with the following configuration:
MIME TYPE: Application
SUBMIME TYPE: postscript
APPLICATION: Adobe Acrobat. 2.1
ACTION: launch.
FILE EXTENSION: pdf
After you have downloaded and saved a PDF file from our pages, you can then view the PDF file using the PDF reader.
Please also refer to the release notes given with the relevant programs for further help. (Microsoft are also developing a PDF plug-in for their Internet Explorer web browser. we will be adding any instructions for using this plug-in as soon as possible.)
- If you have attempted to download an article but for some reason transfer failed or was not completed, then please inform us immediately by e-mail or via the:
Subject to investigation we will correct the balance of your account back to its level immediately prior to this occurrence as soon as possible.
